Huge Transfer Creates Light at End of the Tunnel

Written by Canuck Racing at 18:11 14/12-2010

Nearing the end of a largely disappointing season, Canuck Racing manager, Andrew Cantarutti, sought to make changes to the team. After beginning the season in division 4, Cantarutti decided it would be best to drop down to division 7 due to the team's lack of success. "Division 7 was meant to be a means of training our up and coming riders," said Cantarutti. However, the training was slow and did not produce the immediate results he had hoped for.

Canuck Racing's owners, after realizing such a huge shift in the team's performance since the previous season threatened to cut ties with the manager. As a result, the desperate manager began to look for a huge deal that would convince Canuck Racing's executives to keep him.

After weeks of searching, an opportunity presented itself. NRK, one of OCM's greatest success stories, had decided to take of leave of absence from the cycling world. The team decided to sell its major riders including Darrell Randel and Rayan Ioannidis. Cantarutti, having formed a relationship with NRK in the past, immediately asked Espen, the team's manager, what price he wanted for Ioannidis. And so, a bidding war began between Canuck Racing, a seemingly lowly division 6 team, and Torreira, an OCM power-house. After a week of back-and-forth, Canuck Racing, the underdog, succeeded in claiming Ioannidis for a whopping 215k.

In doing so, Canuck Racing released veterans Quinby Kaijala, Solomon Levy, and veteran captain Damon Maze. After the deal was finalized, Cantarutti stated, "Losing Maze has taken it's toll on the team because he was a leader to most of our young guys. However, everyone sees Rayan's potential for success and leadership so the team understands his importance."

With Rayan Ioannidis, Canuck Racing seeks to quickly burst out of its shell and into the ranks of OCM's greatest.
